Back on the running wagon but omg it's cold

Hi everyone

I ended up taking a couple of weeks off the programme unplanned waiting for new trainers as the sole fell off my old ones πŸ˜³πŸ˜‚

I decided to repeat W6 and W7, half way through W7 again. But when I go out first thing it's really cold and feels much harder- am I imagining this? My husband said run faster to warm up but if I run faster I won't be able to keep going non stop. It's my legs that are cold. Any tips? It's just going to get colder ❄. I really hate the cold.

Thanks

Good stretch and warm up before you go? Couple of layers on top half, thin gloves and maybe a hat. Your legs maybe running tights but they should warm up pretty quick once your moving. Majority of heat loss is through your head and your fingers are likely to feel coldest of all.

It's a bit of a shock at first when it's cold isn't it! I definitely wouldn't run faster to compensate though. How about trying gloves and a neck buff. As your runs become longer, you'll find you'll end up taking them off though. A hat is a good idea too, although you can also get a headband which can help keep your ears warm. I wear an old beret as it is the comfiest thing ever, even if it might look a bit odd for a runner!

The bits that will feel the most cold are the head (especially for trichologically challenged guys), the neck, the forearms, the hands, the feet, and the torso (if it's windy).

If it's so cold you're shivering as soon as you're out the door, do a bit of a warm up inside first.

PS. Don't use clothing (especially socks) with cotton in it when running. That holds on to the wet in a bad way.

So basically the whole body πŸ˜‚ looking forward to freezing all winter, I like the idea of a new challenge to overcome

Thanks everyone, think I need a few more layers and a bag for when I finally get warm :)

Head, throat, wrists, ankles.

Make sure they are well covered and you should be warm as long as you are moving.

A neck tube (buff) is excellent, they come in different thicknesses, and if you get too warm you can take it off and just wrap it around your wrist. Twist and double it to make a beanie, they are so versatile.
