Rest days??

I play netball 2-3 times per week - should I be having a day in between sport and running? I haven’t been because it means I can’t run as often as Id like but I don’t want to set myself up for injury. Any advice?

When you run, the impact creates microtears in your muscles, which repair and strengthen on your rest days, not while running. Without rest, repair and strengthening are compromised and injury risk increased. Which is why we recommend non impact exercise on your rest days.

How long have you been playing netball?

While doing these on consecutive days may increase your injury risk, if you have been playing netball for some years then your legs may well have considerable resilience in them already and so that risk increase may be minimal.

All of life consists of calculated risks and I don't think there is a definitive answer to your question, so I would suggest you carry on but if you get any niggles, play safe and rest up.

Thanks! I’ve been playing netball for 10+ years so I think I will just have to listen to my body and be careful not too push too hard on the days I am running.
