I haven't run for a couple of weeks. I had gone on for a longish walk wearing flat shoes. Came home feeling ok sat down and had a cuppa. When I tried to walk had a pain in my heel.
It comes and goes and is more uncomfortable than painful.
I haven't risked going for a run. I will give it more time but I don't want to get out of the running habit as I know it will be difficult to start again.

Nothing worse than something putting you off your stride and worrying that you'll get 'out of practice'. I think you're right to give it time. Hope it eases quickly and you're up and at 'em again soon!
I used to wear Converse all the time - pancake flat with insufficient support. I wear Brooks Ghost for exercise - not cheap by any means but the best for me. There are exercises you can do to help with plantar but first off get out of the shoes that don't give you sufficient support. Hotter shoe company have shoes that help. It might be popular with the older lady (they do gents shoes as well) but I think it's the first time I've ever gone into a shop wearing one pair of shoes and come out wearing the ones I'd just bought. The thought of another minute on Edinburgh cobbles in Converse was excruciating. Even regular trainers will probably help more than normal shoes.
Thanks for that. It does match plantar, so could be that. I was wearing Converse type shoes when it came on at first. They have not been back on my feet since.
I think you'll lose condition relatively slowly if you aren't running (unless you are a top athlete in competition condition), so if you do take a break you won't be anywhere near square one again.
As to motivation? That's more difficult - I guess only you can do that, but if you want to improve yourself then you need to get those shoes back on and get back out there (when the time is right).
Thanks Stuart I am determined to restart as soon as I can. I don't mind building up again, but not necessarily from the very beginning. Thanks for your encouragment.
It has been very hot and humid over the past week and I've struggled myself to do my usual 30 min run ( haven't progressed much from that since graduation ) . Only managed it once in the past week but still going out for mini runs ( I call them ) which is better than nothing so maybe just try that for a bit to get you moving again.
