Pain in knee, should I run today?

I woke up with pain in my knee this morning and am due to go out for W1R3 later today.

Should I go out for this run or do I need to take more time for it to recover?

The pain isn't that bad but I don't want it to get worse.

Hi Shon,

Do you suffer from knee pain anyway?

No doubt the more seasoned runners amongst us will respond but an extra rest day doesn’t sound like a terrible idea. Sometimes you can walk it off but it depends how severe the pain is? You wouldn’t want to make it worse.

I’m also just starting the programme and suffer from occasional knee pain after an injury. I’m going to buy a support to hopefully stop the inevitable pain!

Best of luck with your journey.

I've never suffered from knee pain before.

The pain isn't too bad but I want to avoid it getting worse.

I'm due to go for the run after work, at around 6pm. If it improves by then maybe I'll go for it.

See how you feel then 🙂

Most importantly remember: think about going slowly, and then go slower than that.

You’ve likely seen this video on here but just in case. This method is 🌟

Let us know how you get on. It’s not a ‘missed’ run if you decide not to go, just an extra rest day 🙂

Best of luck!

Be careful Shon337 and don't ignore the pain. There are differing levels of pain and soreness but pain is usually a sign of injury. Failure to deal with it can lead to long term problems which will cut short your running career! Nothing wrong with taking extra days rest. If the problem persists you might need a plan to build up supporting muscles and joints so it may help to see a sports physio who can diagnose the problem and get you safely back on track. Good luck

Thanks, I'll take it easy then. Best not to make it worse.
