Hi I'm using a garmin watch for heart rate and I'm not sure if I'm doing myself more harm than good, I'm nearly 47 and wasnt fit before I completed c25k, what is a healthy rate please!

65 resting heart BPM is OK, so is the 169 bpm high, if it was way up at 180/200 I think that might be in the red zone and you would have to slow down.

That's a relief , to be honest I'm not really sure what I'm doing , hopefully I'm doing it right thank you for replying 😊

Are you able to zoom into the time when you did your run?

If you can run at a pace that you can have a conversation then your heart rate shouldn't be higher than a "zone 2" heart rate which is dependant on your own max heart rate. The occasional dip into the higher zones won't necessarily mean you are doing any harm at all and I'd guess many people doing the C25K won't have good fitness when they start so the heart rate will naturally be higher to begin with. From what I've read as your fitness improves your heart rate as you run should come down.

If you can work out what your max heart rate is and then calculate the required heart rates for the different zones, you run slower until your heart rate settles around a zone 2 rate. Otherwise slow down until you can comfortably talk in full sentences is usually a good indication.

I got my info from here so they could better explain the heart rate zones:

I’m sure I read that your max heart rate should be no higher than, 220 minus your age 😊

The recommended pace for C25k is one at which you can speak aloud, clear, ungasping sentences as you run, which will equate approximately to 75% of your max HR.
