Calf strain 🤬🤬🤬

Have been nursing a hurty calf for the last week or so. Nothing serious, and hasn’t stopped me running, but has been increasingly sore in between runs.

Have taken the decision to take a week off running and rest it properly. I’m due to complete week 7 next run, so will probably repeat week 7 starting next Monday .

Frustrated, but I know it’s the right approach.

Absolutely the correct thing to do. Always listen to your body. While resting try and massage the area twice a day and do some easy stretching for the calves.

When you start back, you might not need to redo the whole week, you shouldn't lose your CV progress that quickly.

Hope all goes well!

Wise decision.

Do you stretch after every run?

Stretching immediately after every run, nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/h... while muscles are still warm and supple, pulls out contractions, avoiding carrying tensions into the next run and also improves recovery by improving blood flow, as recommended in the guide to the plan.

Many people do not hold their stretches for long enough or put enough effort in. Hold post run stretches for 30 seconds and make sure the pull is strong enough to be on the verge of discomfort.

Yes, I’ve read your advice many times on stretching and hydration, and do the stretches from the nhs website you posted.

Just one of those things I guess, bound to get injuries from time to time. I’m playing the long game, what’s a week in the wider scheme of things?
