Some time ago l started using cardio zones as part of my long distance training. As we know, long distance runners spend a huge chunk of their running (around 80%) in zone 2, which in my case is up to 115 heart knocks per minute. That used to be the lower end of my resting heart rate during the peak of my fun loving era when I heavily sponsored the tobacco industry.
I somehow managed not only to bring the heart rate down to that level l also managed to slow down from an average 5.45min per km to nearly 9min. Bad news for my speed quest but l can simply stay on my feet for hours without any fatigue. I often glance on the side to check on my reflection in shop windows in order to see if l'm actually moving or not, but it appears that my movements do resemble those of people who run. I've rehearsed a few choreographed tricks when approaching bemused pedestrians (theatrically checking on my watch or moving my arms as if I'm doing shoulder stretches) so they could for a second think that I'm some kind of an ex-pro.
I'm also sporting an alternative to my regular 33 Bird jersey, to add to the fun. My wife reckons that l look like a beaten budgie.
