You don’t ‘have to’ do consecutive runs. In fact at this stage in your development as a runner it’s much better not to. If you miss a day here and there and end up taking ten or eleven weeks instead of nine to finish the programme that’s no big deal. Much better than being unable to run for a month or two due to overdoing it and getting injured. Remember the rest days are not about getting your breath back: they are about letting yourself muscles recover and repair, and you really do risk injury if you don’t take them.

You can do it. I have those thoughts every run and have just completed my W6R2. In the first few weeks I was positive I could never do the following weeks run but decided to give it a go, nothing to lose really, can always go back a week if its too much. To my amazement I managed it (cant say easily) but I did.

Now I look at the run and although it looks a challenge, I have confidence in the C25K plan and so if thats what it says to do then as its got me this far then it must be possible.

I would say that the rest days are important and would think it better to have 2 rest days rather than 2 run days. Last week I had an enforced 3 day break and I think it did me a lot of good.I

Give it a rest day or two then go for it. Good luck.

When you run, the impact creates microtears in your muscles, which repair and strengthen on your rest days, not while running. Without rest, repair and strengthening are compromised and injury risk increased.

We are all capable of doing way more than our bodies are conditioned to do, but not without increasing our injury risk. Sticking to gently progressive training plans is the safest way to push our limits.

PLEASE TAKE YOUR REST DAYS

Don't look ahead! Get ready for your run and find out what it entails literally when you click on 'RUN' - that way there's no going back and no time to think your way out of it. You just need to tell yourself ' I CAN DO THIS' - positive thoughts deliver.
