Shin splints - the curse :(

Feeling really disheartened at the moment . I was doing really well up until I went on holiday in April/may (getting as far as running 10k).. Whilst on holiday we hiked up the highest mountain in Borneo, and in the process of coming back down I pulled something in my thigh.. since getting home it recivered but I didn't try running for a while for one reason or another.. when I did a few weeks later I got pain in my shin and around my ankle.. I've been seeing a sports physio for a couple of months now and have done all the exercises but haven't really had any improvement.. feeling really fed up and wondering if I'm ever going to be able to run without pain again.. I run strangely anyway because I have a dodgy ankle so my physio is trying to change my technique to see if this helps...so far it hasn't helped! I've got my next session tomorrow..wish me luck!

I remember having physio for a number of months a few years back. Hip / groin pain in my case. After religiously doing all the physio daily, attending all appointments my physio said the underlying damage had been fixed but my brain was “remembering “ pain when there was nothing damaged. She gave me links to a video and research papers and explaining this phenomenon. After reading them I was able to “switch off” the pain. Unfortunately I can’t find the links but it may be worth asking your physio about this. If the problem is sorted but the pain is still there you may also be able to find out how to switch it off. Good luck

That's really interesting, thank you for your comment! I'll see what the ohysi says tomorrow. I'm not very good with being patient!

Good luck, patience is something we all have to learn on this plan. Take care
