Well this running thing kind of defies logic. How can I go from 2 minutes into a 20 run with ‘there is no way I can do this, I’m going to have to repeat a week’ to finishing the 20 mins with run to spare!! Michael said at the beginning of the podcast that this run was more mental that physical (and I believe pretty much anything he tells me) so I tried to remember that through the run. Once I found a comfortable plod, I also remembered that when I had run any distance before that as soon as I found my ‘flow’ I’d be fine. Tbh it’s more Couch to 1k atm but as a fully fledged member of the joffling tortoise club (bow to the gang) I know progress is possible.
Now what to do about my rather damp smelly trainers 🙈😂

Congratulations on completing run 3 of week 5, that is a milestone run with C25K, glad that you found your 'flow' that is important to get a steady pace. Onwards and upwards to week 6 run 1 but be careful about that run as it catches out some people with the interval walks and runs after the non stop 20 minutes of W5R3 which you have just ran 🏃 😊 👍
Great run. The first few minutes of a run tend to be the toughest (toxic 10) so that partially explains that thing at 2 minutes in... and you demonstrated that mental strength that MJ was alluding to. Enjoy week 6... slow and steady into those runs and you got this.
Thanks UnfitNoMore! Interesting about the toxic 10 thing. Haven’t heard of that before. Then I’ve never run for 20 mins before either lol. Will keep plodding. At times when I think other people are watching and judging me for being slow (how do I even know this is true! 🙈😂), I think ‘are you running for them or are you running for you?’ And that usually slows me down. 😊
I find when I go run laps of the park, most people are impressed... I’ve even had high fives from that group that are definitely going to aim jokes at me... yes, the group of teenage lads! I’m not fast, certainly not by the standards that they’re capable of or used to seeing on TV... but as one of them said to me they can’t do more than one of my laps. The first time the high fives happed I was thinking later that my thinking they were judging me was in fact me prejudging them... which I never intended to do. When it cools down a little I may see if I can get them to run 5k and they can get my km time up!
Yes it’s easy to prejudge others. And I love that they gave you high fives! It would be amazing if you could get them on a park run with you. You never know TIL u ask 🤷♀️😊👍
Congratulations back at you. I think it was a mind over matter thing for me too. I look forward to week 6 even with the stop start. It should make today’s run even more rewarding
Thanks Jaycooper71. Totally with you on the mind over matter thing. It was like I’d forgotten the previous 5 weeks of running had ever taken place 🤷♀️. Yes onwards and upwards for week 6 💪😊
Fantastic stuff! My trainers are also a right state too (started running in the sun, but a thunderstorm followed) but that makes me feel like a proper athlete!
