All done and so far so good. The first 5 minutes seems to be the worst but after that I feel I could run forever (well, almost). I feel as if I'm running within myself (iykwim) so was completely surprised by the speed Strava recorded. Run 2 on Saturday.
Week 8 Run 1: All done and so far so good. The... - Couch to 5K
Week 8 Run 1
Great run. That comfortable pace is rising and that’s a very good indicator of fitness... running within yourself is perfect, that’s how most of your running should be as you progress beyond C25K. The first 5-10 minutes are usually the toughest as your brain needs oxygen deficit to trigger it to ramp up the respiratory system, so it’s a bonus if it’s only 5!
Enjoy run 2.
Thanks for that 😀 It’s very useful to get feedback - particularly as I’m still very much a novice. Interesting about the first 5-10 minutes. I hadn’t realised there was a physiological reason, so good to know. #keeprunning
It’s known as the “toxic 10” there’s lots about it on the running sites... slower running in the first part of a run gets you through it easier... if you go to parkrun you’ll see lots of the established runners having a jog around before the start, but obviously those guys can already run beyond 5k.
