Most accurate app in your experience?

Hi all,

My first post here! Just completed W7R2 and all going much better than I thought possible so far.

I just wondered if anyone has tried a few apps and is willing to say which one you found best at logging your speed and distance correctly.

Also, has anyone got an app that seems to intuitively recognise the difference between your warm up/cool down walk and your actual run, and to remove that pace from your running stats?

Many thanks :)

Welcome.

The apps are all pretty much the same... it’s your device’s GPS that makes the difference. Dedicated running watches are, therefore, the most accurate... newer phones have full GPS, but if any other apps are using location services in the background, they may have turned on assisted GPS and that will have a big effect on accuracy. I run in airplane mode to get round this.

I turn start my run on my tracking app when I start the run itself... there’s little to gain from logging run/walks as far as pace is concerned.

I switch Garmin on when I run...Strava link records moving time too.

I don't know about automatically removing the warm-up - my walking pace is probably faster than some people's running. Strava allows you to crop the start and end of the run. (Cropping is also useful when the GPS hasn't tuned in and you get a squiggly line all over your front garden at the start of your run - and when you forget to turn it off before driving home.)

Strava was the first and only one I tried, so I can't compare it to anything else, but I find it does what I need - which is not a lot.
