Week 2 Run 3, all going well until half way round I hit a problem with calf strain.

I managed to hobble round but it was quite painful. 3 days later just walking my other calf muscle starts to pull fast forward another 4 days 2 today and I try weak to run try again just to ease myself back.

What happens? Cast rain yes again.

This is both upsetting and frustrating and I don't know what to do!

I'm stretching before each run and doing the right things.

Help!

Hi. Are you doing the right stretches before running, they have to be dynamic. More importantly are you stretching AFTER running? Those are the static stretches and really help a lot. I’m just brisk walking the warmup still, but I never miss the post run ones

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

The guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... including links to appropriate stretching and what to do when injured.

Any persistent pain needs to be checked out by a medical professional.

Take care.

I literally feel your pain, I am about to start week 9 but throughout week 3 and 4 I suffered with calf problems (right leg). Like you started stretching before and after runs, I do some calf strengthening exercises and now it is getting colder when I run I wear leggings to keep the muscles a little warmer. I take care to hydrate before a run, I drink diluted Apple juice about an hour before I start. Anyway, it seems to work for me. The bottom line is take care of yoursef, listen to your body and support the muscles that need it. There is lots of good advice on the forum, read the FAQ's for tips. I am sure you will make it to graduation. See you at the finish line.
