WK9R1 - What a great comeback, feeling fantastic again

Well that went rather well if I say so myself.

After 9 days of sitting on the Injury Couch nursing my injured calf muscle and getting fidgety through the lack of running. I finally ventured out into the big wide world for a little "Trial" comeback run last night, to see how things felt and how I got on.

The intention was to take it nice and easy and just ease in gently with a 20 minute run / walk session and see how the body and calf felt, this didn't quite go to plan though.

I went through all the stretches and the 5 minute warm up walk and then started off at the absolute slowest pace that I could find. I was so slow even the snails could have overtaken me.

The 1st 5 minutes were full of anxiety, with every step my brain was waiting for the slightest niggle to come from my calf area, nothing came. I soon realised that as well as being into my second 5 minutes, not only was I not feeling any pain or discomfort, but I was actually plodding at a fairly respectable rate and not feeling at all out of breath. Ok I thought I'll keep going at this rate and see how I get on.

10 Minutes had passed and I'm even more settled into the run than was at my happy 5 minute stage. This is good I think to myself, there's still no pain or discomfort, maybe i'll see if I can just reach the 20 minute mark and then perhaps give it a rest and start up week 9 properly on Friday.

20 Minutes in and I feel even more settled and stronger than ever, so it's at this point the same brain that's put all those negative thoughts into my head during the earlier stages of this C25K journey, gives in with all the negativity and says to me, just get this done, you've done 2 thirds of your time, you feel great, so just finish it and that's what I did.

So despite my very conscious slow slow start, I not only completed the full 30 minutes, I covered a more than respectable 4670mtrs.

Don't think it could have gone any better, felling fantastic once again.

Thank you. If the last week or so has taught me anything it's that I definitely need to be more patient.

It was very much up there with my top runs so far.
