Getting on?

Hi all - been trying to get back to where I was after a bad injury last year (no running for over 7 months due to a gastrocnemius tear that was a level 2, so not quite an operation).. been following a walk run pattern for a few weeks and started being able to run for 20 minutes non stop - then moved on to just over 5k in 36 minutes. I've kept this up until last weekend when I completed my third non stop 5k, however, on the Sunday morning woke up with a sever pain in my groin that comes and goes (hell getting out of the car and lifting up my right leg). I did try a very, very slow walk run (which actually took the pain away), but as soon as I rest up it comes back - as it seems its a groin strain I wanted to ask everyone how to play this one (exercises and when I should start running again)? Any ideas? I just seem to be plagued by one thing after another and I've tried to be careful (didn't have any of this three years ago when I was running half marathons and one marathon) - is it my age (47) ha ha....
