Aching ankles
Stretch your ankles by turning your foot over so your soles are facing inwards. Do this with your running shoes on to get some grip and do it very slowly and gently. Hold for about 10-20 seconds and repeat on other foot.
Also do some strengthening exercises.
- Stand on one foot and write the alphabet with your other foot.
- Stand on tip toes and, preferably holding a weight, walk on tiptoes for 30 seconds.
- if you are a gym goer, stand on the wobble board on one leg building up to a minute. Otherwise stand on a pile of cushions.
- Roll a golf ball under your foot to release tightness.
- Stretch out your calves after each run.
If your running shoes have not been fitted after a gait analysis done at a specialist running shop, they may well be contributing to your aches.
