Help to get back out there!

Hi folks. Never knew about this page. Was Googling how to get back into running after 3 months. I ran the London Marathon, I had run for 2 years, was getting of fab, true addict. However and I know its daft but I was disappointed with my time, was the worst run I'd ever done and after the marathon I was just rubbish so this put me off putting on my trainers. I can be real hard on myself. Then all my buddies are smashing their PB's and I have come to a stand still. So I've decided to start from scratch on my own till I can get back out with my pals.

Has anyone any tips of how to stop listening to the excuses in my head (I think I already know them though)

This forum is for those new runners undertaking the NHS and similar Couch to 5k training plans and we recommend that you forget about pace while you build your basic running body, so we may not be the best people to answer a question regarding a purely performance based issue.

Running too hard for too much of the time, causing burnout is a common cause of your situation. If you are going to do the plan, stick to it, don't try to recreate your former glories. It takes time to build back up again.

This guide to the plan gives basic advice, which many experienced runners do not know healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and this post is the one which we direct graduates of the programme to healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and if you read it carefully, you may spot where you went wrong.

We also have a Bridge to 10k and Marathon and Race Support sister sites on HealthUnlocked, which may be useful for you.

Enjoy your journey and run because you can, not just to try to prove something to .........somebody..........
