Can’t seem to push myself further than 25 min runs in the week but I do a 5k park run just fine🤔

Got a 10k run to complete in June but don’t see me doing the whole thing x

What's that feeling? Can't be bothered? A lack of motivation out on your own in the lousy weather, I feel like that sometimes and have to push on through it thinking I'll just get to the 30mins at least, but then once there I may push on to 5k, then Saturday Parkrun comes, take last Saturday although was really cold in the shaded parts of the run I warmed up and running with others and in the sunshine felt much better and was a bit more motivating..😊

Is it perhaps you are less pressured for time at the weekend Parkrun maybe?

If so it might be worth just thinking that Saturday will be your longer run. I have in the past run Parkrun, given in my token, then carried on running, thus building a little more distance. If you can run home that would be great, sadly I have to drive at least ten miles to a local Parkrun. As you have been a graduate some time you could combine this approach with Ju-ju’s 10 is the Magic Number training plan which is under the pinned posts on B2 10k site.

Also, I noticed you are a speedy runner. Don’t forget you should be doing slower runs to build stamina and distance so maybe consider slowing down as you take on your 10k training.

If could also be the route you are choosing mid week, is it more hilly, different terrain etc? Hopefully you will overcome this hiccup soon.

Thanks for your great advice. Yes my run is definitely more hilly that’s for sure. Iv tried slowing down too which does help a lot cx

You're doing just fine.

Change your route, stop looking at your watch and slow down. They say a change is as good as a rest so just enjoy a few runs without any self imposed pressure and you'll get there.

Good luck and happy running!

I know what you mean Megzy - I set out to do my weekly long run today but decided I’d had enough after 5km and will use this week as an easy week

instead, to let me recover 🙂

As Millsie suggests, juju’s 10km plan works well - mixing up slower longer runs with shorter (and faster if you feel like it) runs each week. Once you find a comfortable pace to go beyond 5k you will be fine. 10k should not be a problem for you by June (it is a 6 week plan increasing by 1k each week). I completed it last month. Good luck 🙂
