Shin Splints or just Beginner's Ache?

I have a feeling in my legs when I run and I am confused as to whether its normal (keep running!) or shin splints (rest up)

When I run, it feels stiff, like my shins are made of stone for the first 30 seconds or so. After I run, it feels just stiff. Not painful...just stiff?

Any thoughts at all would be much appreciated.

"Shin splints" is pain in the shins, not a condition as such. The advice here is pretty good:

As a beginner you will get aches and pains, but they will probably ease after several weeks.
