Ive had shin splints for over a year now and my physio has said for me to start the couch to 5k. i have been a keen footballer for the past 15 years and this is the one injury that has completely stopped me! Has anyone else used this to combat shin splints and get back to running at all?
Any comments would be appreciated! Thanks!

I suffered shin splints when I started playing badminton about 8 years ago. After a few weeks they went away. I started c25k last autumn as I was hardly getting any badminton games, and again I suffered the splints quite badly during the first few weeks.
I have recently graduated and can run the full 30 mins (just over 5k) without any shin issues at all
Many people get shin splints when they first start the programme. I presume your physio is hoping that a gently progressive training plan like C25K will slowly ease you through your shin splints.
I would recommend that you read this guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and take special notice of the sections about pace. You only need to run at a pace at which you can hold a clear, coherent, ungasping conversation..........no faster.
Great, an enlightened physio. There are a lot of exercises for shin splints, both preventative and curative, in posts on this site and also on the Net. Good luck.
