Today we did our first timed walk. 3.1k in 26 mins averaging 4mph. It's a very urban route up ramps, down stairs, along pavements with slow tourists, stopping at traffic light crossings but we managed a steady pace for most of the walk. We used walkit.com.combto get a circular route. I think we will stick with the route for a bit and see how we go with time. I was a little breathless but it was very humid and I am asthmatic. Bill said he couldn't go much faster without running.

Brilliant well done on starting the walking prep, as everyone has said let your bodies be the guide. Sounds like you got it right for you.

Slow and steady does it...maybe if you are a little breathless, then slow it down and maybe follow Naismith's Rule..which is 3 mph..
The rule was devised by William W. Naismith, a Scottish mountaineer, in 1892. The basic rule is: Allow 1 hour for every 3 miles (5 km) forward....you add an hour for going up things too, but that is mountains... Although your route, sounds pretty up and down too
Be kind to yourselves
PS
( I used to climb and mountain walk when younger.. still have a scramble now occasionally... hence Naismith's Rule!)
hmm, that seems fast to me, guess I am a REALLY slow walker LOL
