I'm Mariadele, I used to be fit and I seriously need to start again. I live next to Northala park hills so I'd like to join you lot next Saturday morning. I'm 60, my aim is to BRISK WALK THE 5K. Is this OK?
Hopeful Mariadele

Hi Mariadele, and welcome.
I assume that you are referring to the Northala Fields parkrun at Ealing, parkrun.org.uk/northalafields/ This is a timed, mass-participation fun run that takes place each week on Saturdays at 9am.
They'll be very happy to have you participate. They have about 300 runners each week, and there are several who walk the course, in 40-50 minutes. You'll need to register as an athlete with parkrun, on their website parkrun.org.uk. Registering will enable you to print off a barcode that's used to identify you as a runner at the event and connect you to your time: always take your barcode.
This forum is for those of us who are working through the Couch to 5km program, mostly in the UK an the NHS program. But we also have a worldwide reach with friends in US, Australia, Canada, France, Denmark and elsewhere (sorry if I've forgotten your country). If you'd like to do a little more than a brisk 5km walk, this C25K program will get you started running, with the aim of getting you from not running, to running for 30 mintues, 3 times per week. It takes a minimum of 9 weeks.
OK, OK, I hear you. At 60 you are NOT too old to start. You'll be a youngster on this forum. Stay, have a browse around, and be inspired.
Hi youngster The walk should be fine...but why not, as our lovely MarkyD suggests, join the C25K programme.. a great way to build fitness up slowly and safely... and we are a great bunch of people on here
Here's the link for our walking forum too, you might like to join us over there !
