Shin pains

Have recently completed c25k and only been running 5k a few weeks. Really starting to enjoy it and a few weekends ago I did 7k but now really suffering with shin pains and can't run. I am not sure if I overdid it too early? I can't run at the moment without pain and not sure how long a break I need to take? I don't want to lose motivation now.

When I increased distance too quickly I ended up on the injury couch for a couple of weeks. Increasing distance by 10% per week seems to be the most consistent advice. I am taking it more gradually this time building from 5k in small increments in order to allow my legs to catch up with my brain. Stretching consistently after running and cross training 2/3 times per week has also helped my leg strength. Sure others more experienced than me will share their thoughts. Hope shins improve soon.
