I walked to school to see my son's assembly (very cute). By the time I got there I felt (and probably looked) like a wet floor mop!

I was only wearing a t-shirt and shorts - blumin weather.

Don't forget to take it back out Ully... low carbohydrate diet would be the least of your worries :)

Actually I went to do some food shopping and loitered for an unseemly time around the refrigerated aisles - wonderful!

davelinks profile image

Am usually glad to get away from those areas! Brrr, then linger down the drinks aisle..😁

Even a cool shower has failed to cool me down properly :-(

Go you Ully... very, very muggy here.. I am very flopsical! Will run very early in the morning!

Hope you have cooled down nowx

Ullyrunner profile image

I love that word 'flopsical'.

I shall endeavour to use it in a proper sentence at every occasion!

Great to have a former English teacher on tap! x

There are some words Ully, that just sum up how you feel perfectly! We used to make up and adapt words, with our small ones, when I taught. I use them still,(why is that not a surprise☺).

Yesterday I was behind time, hair was having a really bad day, road works through the lanes..and when my Art teacher at class asked me if I was okay..I told her I was grumplewick...oddly..she seemed to know what I meant!!

I know...I am loopy ☺

Ullyrunner profile image

Ooh, now I've got to use 'grumplewick' as well!

We use the phrase "twickered out" here on the IOW , it means exhausted, good phrase for today!

If the BFG can get away with it then no reason why we can't :) I'm foobungled now after cooking tea :)

Interesting Tag???!!!!!! Is that a subliminal message?!

Well, interestingly, I normally do follow a low carb diet - no idea why that popped up though!

Just how humid do you lot have it at the moment? I ran at 6 this morning and it was 25 degrees with 83% humidity. I have NEVER had sweat coming out of quite as many pores. The ridiculous thing is that when I started off I was thinking how lovely and cool and fresh it was as my flat was in the 30s overnight.

I'm with you though Ully. On more than 1 occasion I've opened the fridge and thought it would be rather nice to get in for a bit...

Ullyrunner profile image
UllyrunnerGraduate in reply to runningnearbeirut

Okay you win! It's about 25C but humidity is only 65% apparently so we clearly don't know we're born compared to you!

All kudos to you for running in that heat!

runningnearbeirut profile image
runningnearbeirutGraduate in reply to Ullyrunner

Thanks - it was a genuine question rather than a competitive one.... but it is always interesting to see what gets thought of as hot/humid/uncomfortable.

I'm back in the UK for a few weeks soon, so I'm really hoping I'll be going at supersonic speed compared with my current plodding because it will feel relatively comforatble!

Aha! Like athletes training at altitude!

Mind you, it will probably be pouring and cold and you won't know what's hit you!

Yes, I can never quite bring myself to pack for a British summer....

Well done Ully AND runningnearbeirut - high humidity is so draining (why is there no emoji for a middle aged runner with sweat pouring off them?) ;)

I think it might just get over used ;)

Completely agree - it was really humid here when I ran yesterday evening, (not long before the lightening stuck!) Made my run much tougher than it should have been! Managed to run at my usual pace but phew!! so warm by the time I got back. I really do prefer running in the cold! Knew the summer would feel tough but keep telling myself it's all making me fitter and what a breeze it will all be when the temperatures drop again later in the year!🙂

I gave up this morning. Had the day off and stayed in bed far too long. It was 9 am by the time I got out, 22C, sun blazing down and very little shade at the beginning. After about 1.5k, pouring with sweat, really slow and with 1k still to go to get to the woods I decided I'd had enough and there was no point in killing myself. So back home by which time it was 26C. Went for a long walk this afternoon in the blazing heat (31C) and that was more than enough. Well done to all who finished their runs!

I didn't even need to go for a run to become inelegantly sweaty. All I did was unblock the shower drain (removed panels and u-bends all by myself!) and I looked as though I had just taken a shower. Best bit was when I actually took a shower the water drained away swiftly. Not quite as proud as when I graduated, but pretty close 👍

It was sticky out there Ully. I've already had two showers as I've been working in the garden too!

Horrid here too - and we don't even have sunshine to go with it.

davelinks profile image

Yes, slinkylinky and me went for a run last night, she looked like a swan vesta at the end and we nearly drowned in our own perspiration. We just come back from a 20 min walk to polling station and back and seemed more humid and sweaty, phew!😰

Never implied I was Ully, as for your comment, well, sorry about that, but you've made a sharp remark to me before, so being the 2nd time now, 3 strikes and your out!😀
