Do as I say, not as I do.

So, to prep for a 10k, probably better to get plenty of rest the night before and hydrate well and eat something fairly neutral and carb-based, and on the day, have a light breakfast and a good amount of water an hour or so before the race.

Do not have Peruvian chicken with a sauce made of more than a dozen chillis, and three bottles of wine to wash it down with and then just have a litre of espresso and painkillers for breakfast.

Was horribly dehydrated in what turned out to be a hot and muggy race, got serious calf cramps at 4k and had to sit down and rub legs. Went just over the hour mark as a result.

Disappointed with self.

On a more positive note, though, my children all did the fun run and had a super time. My elder son finished 16th overall.

Nice bling though! Well done anyway, I'd be pleased with just over the hour!

... and you got a medal! Well done for doing it and not quitting. Not that you ever would I'm sure, unless your leg was hanging off

I had a 10 k run on an empty stomach this morning because of a stupid lack of planning. I ran out of steam completely. I only had enough water to take my omega 3 capsule so was not hydrated properly. I had the slowest 10 k probably ever. Oh well you live and learn don;t you. If I'd had me porridge I'd have blinded it. LOL

Glad the kids had a great time, even if dad didn't

I had porridge and went out about 3 hours later, but it gave me heartburn all the way. I usually run early morning on just water and half a banana, and that seems much better for me. It was pissing down till 11.30 though, and windy with it, so I didn't fancy it. When I did get out, the sun broke through and it was toooooooo hoooootttt and I really wished I had a bottle of water with me. I'm building up by doing one longer run a week, and this morning was 6.6k. It felt like 20. Hey ho. I bet your 10k was quicker than my 6.6 Miss W!!! x

Well done! I can safely say that even if I follow all the proper advice to the letter, there's no way I'll be just over the hour for my 10k in June, so I'm still envious! ;-) On the bright side, you know you'll be able to go quicker for your next one... :D

I concur with your advice there rig. I'm in training for a 10k and haven't yet done the distance. Yesterday morning, after being "on it" the day before, I went out for a run. Hoped for 9 but would be happy with a more realistic 8. Managed the 8 but it was damn hard! But, I'm certain that with proper prep I should be fine on the day.

Hope you're feeling recovered now, take care :-) xx
