I've never seen them - but I use a freeware: Ghostery which one can set to block all sorts of ads and other things - highly recommended! (together with a search engine called DuckDuckGo - that does not track your searches

They disappeared almost as soon as I noticed them. Hopefully just a temporary glitch!

As far as I have found out it was a trial and it latched on to Google Adsense, not what they wanted. They were trying out the tech but with the thought of maybe in the future using things like NHS advice and things like that, so very relevant and targeted but I get the idea they were just looking at how it works in a real environment.
