Hello all Happy Hump Day I have had my Stoma since January 14 2014 and the first year was a challenge for me and I'm doing better with changing my system etc. I have a question cam someone suggest a good way to keep my system from getting wet when I shower.

I don’t do anything different. I just towel it dry afterwards. I’ve seen people say they use Press & Seal wrap, though.

I understood that the ostomy products were designed to be generally waterproof. I normally shower every morning and pat dry after my shower, however as I have a parastomal hernia and tend to get wrinkling on the sticky bit that attaches to your skin I change my appliance every day after my shower to minimise leaks. However, I do go swimming twice a week, wearing a swim wrap to keep things in place, and put the little sticky cover on the filter before I go for a swim (removing after) and after my swim just pat dry with a towel. Dries real quickly and I don't have any issues after that.

Worth having a look at this video veganostomy.ca/showering-os...

Eric, who lives in Canada does quite a range of informative videos and product reviews, some work for me some not, worth a browse.

This might seem strange but what I do is use a dog poo bag and tie it on the side though, that way no water will enter the bag. If a little does then it is very easy just to gently towel it dry, it dries very quickly anyway, usually in seconds.

Hope this helps.

Having an Ileostomy for 2 years. I use Coloplast sensura Mio products, as they have a grey fabric feel to them, opposed to the more traditional "felt" type covering of other bags. I bathe and shower and then pat dry with a towel and the bag is dry in about 5 minutes. Just make sure you use the filter stickers to protect the carbon filter. If it gets wet, this can prevent gas escaping from the bag, causing it to excessively balloon. Just make sure to remove it, after the bag has dried, otherwise, it will definitely balloon. As another post has said. Vegan Ostomy (Eric) has some excellent YouTube videos regarding Stoma issues, and I have learned a lot from this amazing guy.
