Hi Nick! Let's ask some relevant questions... are you eating properly? This shaking could be from low blood sugar because you aren't eating properly. Does getting some protein in your body (meat or vegan protein) help calm you down after 15 minutes or so?
Shaking inside can be caused because we work ourselves into a panic attack. Is there something other than this that you find so out of your control or acutely stressful that you feel panicked? Have you been under a great deal of stress for any real length of time? The brain has a way of kicking our body into 'flight or fight' adrenalin rushes that become panic attacks.
Are you breathing properly? Sometimes, we don't realise that we aren't breathing properly. We shallow breath and this can, if we do this often or for an extended period, make us shake inside.
Do you meditate? Learning to meditate can help the shakes settle. Meditating not only calms the mind, it helps us learn how to breathe properly and can lower blood pressure and help us deal with stress. You might try this before you decide this shakiness is related to your CMT. You might even find your lower back pain lessens when you meditate just make sure your back is supported until you meditate routinely.
Should you rule out all of the above and should meditation not help, you might want to start a journal of these shaking episodes. Note the time and date, the duration, if you ate anything before they started, if you were on an empty stomach, etc. You might find a pattern emerging and this will also help your doctor understand how frequently these are happening with more clarity.
Hopefully, you will be aware that C.M.T. is a "progressively worsening" disease: The speed of the muscle deterioration / wasting, varies from each person with this disease: My "toe - knee" orthotic splints have given me rigid support, and immobilised by ankles, and "drop-foot" in my lower limbs, and I have complete mobility: I am now aged 67 years, and managed to work for a total of 43 years, with the help of my splints: I also believe the the males superior body strength, allows men to cope better with this weakening muscle disease:
However, whenever I remove my splints, I suffer severe 'tremor' the my lower limbs which results in me "shaking", and clinging for support, before I fall down:
I have also noticed that my balance / reflexes are slowing down considerably since 2002/2003, with my hands in particular: They have no strength or "fine finger dexterity" and are always cold: My hot holidays abroad, now result in having to sit in the shade, and avoid the sun: On a normal UK day I am always cold, and usually wear thermal underwear:
it could be quite simply a drop in your blood sugar if you feel as if you are shaking inside i find this happens when i get overtired too and could be a side effect of any pain meds you are on. I find if I keep my blood sugar topped up then it does subside
I have CMT1A and i have to limit the amount of coffee I drink as it makes me shakey. Shop bought is worse. I try to make it as weak as poss and limit myself to 2 a day. I don't seem to have a problem with tea though!
