I have 1a and about 18 months ago my big right toe suddenly stopped working ( dorsiflex) . One second it was fine, then next completely unable to lift toe up. The strange thing was the movement came back about 2 weeks later for a few months, then in December last year it stopped working again. It has "came back to life" for a few brief moments here and there.
I found this strange as I always thought once it has atrophied or nerve-muscle connection was gone, it was gone for good.
The doctors ruled out other possible types of neuropathy or conditions.
Has anyone else experienced a sudden change or worsening of this quickly ?
The same happened to my left big toe several years ago, but the movement has never come back. My podiatrist made me a little wedge that fits under my big toe and connects it with the next one to keep it horizontal. Otherwise it curls downwards making it really hard to put on socks and shoes.
My toe curls downwards too, I might try and get a wedge for it. It must be better than standing on it with the other foot to straighten it out, which is what I do.
Hello my friend. I can very much relate to your post. I was diagnosed with CMT at 11 years old and over the years, other than the severe fatigue, was first my loss of sensation in my feet and toes and then the complete inability to my feet or toes even slightly. I guess you could say it was not suddenly but I do know what you're talking about. If you have not already please visit cmtausa.org where you can find some answers...
