PGD IVF

Hi all,

I am 25 years old and in the long process of starting Pre Genetic Diagnosis IVF with my fiance.

I am really struggling with coming to terms with the percentage chance of becoming pregnant being so low.

Has anyone else been through this type of IVF?

Thanks

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

It’s such a tough process but I’m writing this with my daughter in the next room. Our first round of this worked (other fertility treatments didn’t work). Our second attempt didn’t work and we decided to stop there (part financial/part emotional decision). It is a tough process but the odds increase with every stage you get to, we were told that if you get an embroyo that is “healthy” and when were told at the point of them putting the embryo in it was 50:50.

Be kind to yourself, let yourself feel what ever you are feeling. If you need more than one cycle, consider giving yourself a break between. We had to travel a long way to a pgd centre so stayed overnight and had some time together to help if feel “fun”. Not sure that worked but it felt less rushed on appointment days.

I also did acupuncture which I found relaxing if nothing else.

Take care and best of luck! Xx

Thank you so much for your reply and kind words.

We are at the stage of test development now so we are very close to starting.

Hi. I’ve done it too, and we have a little boy. It was a little bit expensive but worth it. We got pregnant off our first attempt and I was 32. Being 25 you’ll have a really good chance as your eggs are all young. Happy to answer any questions you have.

Thank you for responding. My folic count is quite low unfortunately. I'm hoping it works otherwise we will look into egg donation.

Don’t lose heart. They may get more follicles next cycle. Sometimes it’s just a matter of changing the medication they use to stimulate the follicles.

I have CMT1A and my illness progressed a lot over the years but I have three lovely children. Sadly the the.one child does have CMT but her two children skipped it.

Hi.

My mum has cmt1a, its skipped my older brother thankfully then I inherited. Unfortunately we didn't find out my mum had it until she was in her 40s so we dont know which side of her family it came from.

I'm hoping this new type of ivf will work for us.

Thank you for your reply

Hi Sarah

Have you considered acupuncture? . I no it might sound a bit weird. First of all I'm a big cynic regarding "alternative treatments". Due to CMT symptoms I was desperate and made a list of anything that could help. I am not the type of person that responds to the placeabo effect and it did so much for me. My acupunturist is a fertility specialist and has treated a very sceptical GP ( of all people) with success.

The irony is my acupuncturist has never wanted children and nor have I ( but I'm a guy so not quite the biological pull)

I haven't tried acupuncture. I may have to research this in my local area. Thank you for advice

Hi all...

Quick update on our progress. We have just done the egg retrieval of the ivf process and have 3 embryos out of 5 eggs.. now it's the long wait to see if they develop far enough to be tested for the gene. Then there is another long wait for the testing results.

I want to say a big thank you to everyone for there replies.

Hi I have CMT 1a which unfortunately I have given to one of my children. I wasn’t diagnosed until he was diagnosed age 9. This is because I was asymptomatic ( no real Symptoms). However I am declining quite a bit in leg strength now at age 60. My son is 28 and will want to start a family soon so I am doing some research for him. I am really interested to hear everyone’s stories and I hope you can continue to give us updates.

I would love to hear the costs of possible. Good luck. Praying for healthy babies without CMT. X
