Hiya, I have CMT, Type 1a as well as my 3 children, my sister and my dad. Question: have any of you ever experienced periods of blurred vision in your periphial areas with both eyes? I have had 3 bouts of this periphial blurriness lasting approximately 15 minutes, then back to normal vision. I saw an eye Dr after the 2nd bout and he diagnosed me with an astigmatism which is unrelated. I am currently waiting to see a neurologist which can take months here in Canada. Btw, I am 49 years of age. I worry about M.S. although the Dr at the clinic feels these episodes are related to the CMT ,although he is unsure, as this is not his area of expertise.

Blurred periphial vision with CMT....?
Hi I'm 65 and have type 1a. I have never experienced the condition you describe, heard about it or seen it mentioned in the many papers and articles I've read on the subject of CMT. Of course the symptoms are wide ranging and variable, even within the same family group, but I wonder if there might be another cause behind this particular problem. I hope you get it resolved soon, please update us if you do get an answer.
Hi Cindy, I have that and am just at the end lf having loads of other tests to rule out anything else. My neurologist says there is myelin in the brain as well as hands and feet and said my blurry vision at times was due to CMT although this is only conjecture on his behalf since there is no test to prove it. The same nerve also supplies voice box and swallowing and I get brief problems with this at times. The first neurologist I saw about my eyes about six years ago said he didn't think my optic neuritis (they can look into eyes and see a swollen optic nerve but can't see the cause). he didn't think it was CMT then he retired ad the new neurologist says it is. I think it is so new not every dr has discovered it. I have type 1a too
Hi! Thank you for your response How often do you have these periods of blurriness? It sure is a show-stopper isn't it?!! I had the first one 7 years ago, then the last 2 bouts have occurred, the last 8 months. So perplexing eh?
Interestingly, when I saw an expert neurologist in London, she got me to read opticians test card and looked into my eyes. Didn't think at the time. But wondered if that was connected. Will email her and ask.
It’s unlikely that it’s related to CMT - remember we are susceptible to everything else that people get, so it could be coincidental. There are one or two types of CMT that can lead to optic nerve atrophy - CMT2a mainly, so unless you have this type, it’s more likely to be something unrelated.
I have just had a bout of starry blurred vision. First one since I retired but used to get them regularly when I was working. Tests could find no reason.
