Back Pain Advice and Meds

Hi

I posted this in a different forum as unsure which one to use?

Anyhow, for the past 6 months I have had very bad back pain which is impacting daily life. I have no idea what triggered it but my physio says she sees it all the time and it is degenerative disc disease.

I have paid for a dozen physio sessions and several osteopath sessions which have not been helpful unfortunately and now at a loss as to what to do next.

I cannot take NSAID pain killers due to IBD so am on the lowest dose of cocodemol available over the counter at the pharmacy (not on prescription). I use hot water bottles and TENS machine.

If anyone has experience of lower back pain L5 region please could you answer the following from experience.

Which pain medication helped?

Did physio eventually help or exercises?

Is it worth getting an MRI? they are quite expensive privately here in UK

Did you have or consider having a pain injection and was it worth it?

Thanks

hello Jo. Firstly, this isn’t the right forum for your question. Within Health Unlocked there are a couple of other suitable ones. Do a search for arthritis.

This particular forum (which I think should be deleted) was set up specifically for a research project which finished a couple of years ago.

You can I expect copy your post and then paste it into another more suitable one. In the meantime, the charities who specialise in this kind of pain are Versus Arthritis and others - a Google search will tell you. Versus Arthritis was the one recommended by the rheumatologist I consulted a couple of years ago, well worth a browse through.

I've tried all of these. I swear by hot water bottles and a bit of stretch yoga. I know it is difficult but you must keep moving. Even if that means a short walk several times a day ( a short walk could be to the garden gate and back on a bad day).
