CLL Support is 20!

The UK charity behind this forum was set up in 2004 by a small group of CLL patients, with the help and support of Prof Daniel Catovski and Prof Terry Hamblin. They believed that people with CLL needed to come together to share experiences and to learn about CLL at a time when treatment was difficult, and information scarce.

A first meeting was organised in a pub, with 9 people attending. At the next meeting 14 people turned up, minutes were taken, and Prof Hamblin spoke. This small beginning has grown to 3,500 CLL Support members, and over 22,000 on this forum. Without the dedication and efforts of this small group of people, CLL Support, and this forum, would not exist, and we pay tribute to those early pioneers, Chonette Taylor, Howard Pearce and Sue Waldie.

We wanted to celebrate the selfless work that everyone has put in over the last 20 years helping to bring CLL Support to where it is today, as the only UK charity dedicated to helping people with CLL. We’re very excited about what we have planned throughout the year, and we would love you to help us by joining in the celebrations in any way you can.

Just some of the events are:

• A Guinness Book of Records attempt on the walk from John O’Groats to Land’s End.

• One of our trustees will cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

• ‘Challenge 20’ where we invite everyone to take on a task, however small, based on the number 20. Read 20 books, bake 20 cakes, or do whatever you can.

• Dog lovers will enjoy the exploits of Saith, a Welsh Springer, who will be entering 20 Agility competitions throughout the year. She’s already won the first!

For more information, and the latest news, have a look at the 20th Anniversary page on our website:

We’ll be updating it regularly.

If you feel that you can sponsor some of the events, that would be great, but the main thing is to enjoy the celebrations as a thank-you to the founders. We hope you do.

Thank you so much Brian.

I remember the first London meeting I attended and Professor Catovski was the main speaker and so impressive and inspiring.

Penblwydd Hapus!

I’ve not been on this site for long and it’s already been immensely helpful and it is a comfort knowing there is a safe place to land when needed.

Thank you to the founders and to all the lovelies here now!
