Hi I was contacted today to take 2nd Shingles jab Shingrex. I know it's not live but have read it can still affect immunity so decided to postpone for a couple of weeks as Heamatology dept ramped up my FLG injections to 2 per week as Neutrophils 0.82 then check bloods again.Anyone have an opinion on this. GP nurse thinks ok to have today.

I was advised when I got.the first jab that the second jab needs to be given between 2 and 6 months after the first. Another member may have different information though.

Thanks only been about 8 weeks since 1st injection so no harm in postponing by a few weeks.

Hi Guinness4822,

-

Can you share a link or reference to where you read about Shingrex / Shingrix affecting immunity.

There are several discussions related to your spelling Shingrex in the box on this page labeled: "Related Posts

And this medicine net article: medicinenet.com/who_cannot_...

SNIP (BOLD is my emphasis): "How effective is Shingrix?

Data indicates that Shingrix is 97% effective at preventing shingles in people between 50 and 69 years old. Shingrix is 91% effective in people who are older than 70.

It’s slightly less effective in immunocompromised individuals. In this case, it only prevents shingles 68% to 91% of the time. The efficacy depends on what condition or treatment is weakening your immune system.

Even when you get shingles with the vaccine, the symptoms should be milder than if you weren't vaccinated.

The vaccine also helps prevent the shingles complication PHN. Shingrix is between 89% and 91% effective at preventing PHN in all adults over the age of 50.

Studies show that, with two doses of the vaccine, your immune system still shows strong resistance seven years after you first received it.

Guillain-Barré syndrome

In 2021, the FDA required a warning about an increased risk of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) within 42 days of getting the Shingrix vaccine. A 2022 case series found an estimated three cases of GBS per million vaccinations for adults 65 and older.

Hi Guinness4822,

-

I can't find any mention that we should delay or not get Shingrix / Shingrex. Only that since our immunity is low, it might not be as effective preventing an infection.

But as I listed in BOLD above, even if we get Shingles, having the 2 Shingrex vaccine shots, lowers the severity and prevents PHN.

I would still be more confident taking 2nd Jab when Neutrophils slightly higher. Will still only b 10 weeks since 1st jab.

Good move to wait until your neutrophils are higher; greater than 0.5 is recommended: healthunlocked.com/cllsuppo...

Any doubt just email your Cancer Nurse Specialists.

I had to delay a COVID jab to the middle of a treatment cycle of Obinutuzumab and after ramp up of Venetoclax so any reaction would be more easy to attribute.

Yes having a few side affects from Venetoclax so think wise to be cautious. Thanks for post.

Hi Guinness4822,

That makes sense, timing it for better success when your neutrophils are higher, is wise.

vs. the original (reverse) premise, that Shingrex affects your immunity.

As you probably know from your first dose, it does generate a pretty hard reaction. You should be well in yourself before taking the vaccine.

Be sure your antibodies are high. My antibodies was 120 count and was so low that I have had the shingle pain for 2 years now and the only thing that controls the pain is pot. Good luck Gary

Also suffering from PHN, normal drugs don’t seem to work so cannabis may be the next option
