Now going to start treatment

Suzie42 profile image
15 Replies

Last month my Haematologist informed me that I now needed treatment but had to consult with my lung and heart specialist to decide which treatment will suit me best. I had an appointment yesterday and my haematologist said they all agreed Calaquence tablets with prophylactic for infections would be best for me. I will be starting soon. Is there anyone else just on this treatment and how are you doing?

Hi Suzie42,

You can click this link

to see the 1,182 posts that discuss acalabrutinib monotherapy, aka Calquence.

I took it from January 2022 to January 2024 with no problems or side effects, and consistently low MRD levels.

I'm like you, I too have a heart condition and take many pills for that. I've been on acalabrutinib for over a year now, together with other pills to protect my chest and also from shingles. I've had no side effects from them. My WBC has lowered a lot. Hope you go on okay too. Best wishes.

Thank you. I only take asprin and statin for my heart. Did you start feeling better when you started treatment?

I was a lot less tired. By the time I started treatment I struggled to walk as far as I used to. I'm in my late 70s so I put it down to age , (and my heart condition) but since starting on acalabrutinib my energy has gradually returned. I can now walk my dog 2 to 3 miles (his limits). Hope things work out for you too.

Thank you, I'm hoping for more energy as I need to exercise more for my lung problem, although an arthritic knee isn't helping. More energy will help me enormously.

I have been on Calquence for a year and have coronary artery disease, take low dose aspirin, and Xarelto (from a prior pulmonary embolism 8 years ago). I bruise a little but other than that Calquence works magnificently at getting rid of enlarged lymph nodes and enlarged spleen (spleen no longer enlarged but still have one! lol) and getting blood counts all back in normal range except for mildly elevated absolute lymphocytes which are almost normal. More importantly I feel great!

Hi Suzie42,

I have coronary artery disease. I was on Calquence for about 2 1/2 years with mostly no side effects. It worked very well for getting my numbers back down to normal really quickly.

I hope it works well for you.

I was on Acalabrutinib for 10.5 weeks & the headache for 14 days was hard to deal with. Also I suffered bad bone/joint pain. I understand that coffee helps but that gives me palpitations so increasing my water intake helped me. Also moving around with the new bone/joint pain helps alleviate it. The more I sat around the worst the pain was. I love the fact of just 1 pill twice a day & I found it much milder than Zanubrutinib. You will do well & your numbers will amaze you, GODSPEED 🙏🏾
