Has there been any medical papers on the efficacy, (Or not) of Probiotics and CLL. I have been taking half a bottle of Keffir a day for two months, which appears to settle my stomach.

Any info would be appreciated.

Regards Ron

My hematologist said not to take during chemo. I don't take it during my remission. No issues. But if ur on W&W and it helps you then as long as ur hematologist says ok, then continue.

I have been taking it since I was diagnosed. As I understand it, a healthy gut can only be helpful. However, we make our own kefir as I have read that the supermarket kefir contains preservatives for shelf-life. It is easy to make if you want to try.

Thanks for the info, I am relieved as I really like the stuff, and feel it's doing me good, and as I always say, if it feels good for you, then it is.

All the best Ron

I have read that research with kefir and blood cancers is happening, but also that fermented foods might cause a risk of infection for people with CLL. I’m stage 0, but might think again if my symptoms change.

If you're asking if there is any peer-reviewed study showing that taking probiotics has benefit in the treatment of CLL, I'd say: I doubt it, or it would have been loudly broadcast on this forum.

I eat live yogurt daily, exotic cheeses quite often, sauerkraut and kimchi every now and then. You drink keffir. We enjoy doing so. Maybe it helps our digestion, maybe not.

It seems that most health claims for probiotics are exaggerated, though they can help rebalance a disrupted microbiome scientificamerican.com/arti... and the microbiome has been shown to play an important role in the development and functioning of the immune system cancer.gov/research/areas/p...

I take it daily on w&w and now on treatment. It helps my gut a lot and that in turn helps my head, less pain, less worries more smiles.

That is a great attitude to have.

Of course, not all of our CLL is in 'The Mind', but the 'Mind' does play a very important part in our well being I think.

It also helps to be a 'Bottle Half Full Person', I find.

I agree CLL is most definitely not in the mind, but as you say a healthy mindset definitely helps along the way.

Hi Ron. The product that you are taking, is it a homogenized, pasteurized, dairy based, re-injected with a single bacterial strain kefir? Here is the source I consider most credible on the topic:
