Yes I developed a spectacular rash on Acyclovir. They put me on Valacyclovir instead and that is fine. It's exactly the same active ingredient apaprently.

Hi Simpomo,

We had a discussion on skin issues 3 weeks ago, here was my reply:

Both ibrutinib and acalabrutinib can cause skin rashes, Ibrutinib did it to me, but I was fortunate that acalabrutinib does not.

I had a bit of this while on zanubrutinib (somewhat similar to acalabrutinib but more targeted) and adding acyclovir. It was not too bad though. Just lots of small pink dots, a few larger blood-blister sorts of things, and some itchiness but not terrible. Almost all feet/ankles, which my oncologist felt was a result of higher blood pressure in lower extremities.

So far we have just let it be and it has not been a big issue.

Be aware that there is a rash that results from poor blood oxygen / reduced circulation at extremities -- I note your post about emphysema..

My experience was likely due to crossing my legs, part of habit, part to keep warm, and this seems to have caused blood restriction in lower legs and thus a related rash. Dermnet.nz (specialist dermatology website) had a specific term for my rash.

Summary: avoid resting legs on top of each other or heavy bedding, stay hydrated and warm, see if your doctors think reduced circulation/blood oxygen at ankles could be the issue.
