My platelets are at 93 and I am on watch and wait. They have been slowly but consistently dropping over the past few years. Is there an alternative that would address the platelet issue rather than initiating treatment for the CLL?

Platelets at 93
Been on W&W since 2013. Recently, my platelets droped from ~ 140 to 114 in only 3 weeks. My platelets have continually trended downard since 2013. But last week, they were up to 147. I think the recent temporary drop was due to me being on the pain killer Aleve just prior to my blood draw. There were quite a few very good responses to my platelet drop on this blog a few weeks ago concerning possible treatments, etc. Suggest you do a search on low platelet.

I think this is a question for an experienced hematologist.
I believe that a decreasing platelet count can have several different causes, but for most CLL patients it may indicate that the bone marrow is getting too crowded and not able to produce sufficient new red and white blood cells.
So the doctors will likely look for other indications like a declining RBC or ANC Neut# vs. indications of ITP ( nhlbi.nih.gov/health/immune... )
If there was a suspicion of other causes, then a BMB (Bone Marrow Biopsy) might be used to clarify, but if CLL treatment is thought to be inevitable, then delaying CLL treatment might put you at risk for other blood problems.
