It seems that whenever I have good news, bad is soon to follow.
I had a wart like lump on my arm which appeared around 6 years ago but was told it was an age spot. A few months ago I thought I had seen a change.
My GP said it was nothing and when I mentioned I was seeing my CLL consultant soon after and would raise it with him, was told that he was bound to remove it as that is what they always do. So my consultant decided best to check and referred me.
The dermatologist thought it was nothing but did a biopsy just in case. They couldn't rule it in or out from the sample so opted to remove it all. Today I was called in for a meeting and it would appear that it is a melanoma and they need to take another 3cm around it away to be on the safe side. Just what I need!
Dermatology are going to speak to haematology to check if they need to consider anything else and I really hope this doesn't affect the BMT plans.

So sorry to hear this news. I am glad you got it looked at, though. I don't know the intracacies of BMT and the timing for using a donation. I know I'd be concerned enough to make a call to the hemo/oncologist to find out. I hope you will do whatever you need to do get some sense of peace with what is to be done and feeling of support by from the Drs. involved. Keeping you in prayers.
Hi KAS, obviously I’m not giving medical advice but I’d have thought if they feel they can eradicate all signs and risks from the melanoma by doing a wide excision, all should be well. Sounds like it’s been found earlier before it’s had chance to infiltrate like mine. I had a second wide excision on my back and that was seen to be the end of that particular melanoma (however it does make us more susceptible to further occurrences so be watchful).
Hopefully, once the results of the second excision return, you’ll be be able to proceed with the BMT plans which I hope go incredibly well.
If there are any concerns with melanoma results, a sentinel node biopsy is usually carried out.
Thanks. I was offered the node biopsy but the growth is 3.8mm and would mean stopping my CLL drugs. For me CLL is the biggest risk atm so I am doing nothing to jeopardise the BMT
So sorry to hear what you are going through. It surely highlights the need to stay vigilant and keep on top of annual dermatology appointments. I have so many freckles and several moles that problems could easily be overlooked. Best wishes.
