Paxlovid Effectiveness

Has anyone seen any data on the effectiveness of Paxlovid against the newest Covid variants ?

I'm not sure about any data from trials, but I had Covid 3 months ago, so guess it was Omicron, I was in bed for 4 days with fever and Paxlovid worked wonders for me, I mean I almost immediately felt better, whereas my other half continued to be rough (thankfully she doesnt have CLL) despite her giving Covid to me and her being 3 days ahead of me ......

For info I've been W&W for 4 and a half years and my bloods are better than stable.

I had COVID a month ago, presumably the Omicron variety. I wasn,'t confined to bed but felt very weak a nd had an on and off fever. I tested positive on the Monday received Paxlovid on the Wednesday and by the Friday I was feeling a lot better and completely recovered by the following Monday. I think Paxlovid made it milder and the recovery faster

I haven’t seen any data but my own experience is that, having been diagnosed as positive on 9 July, I had Paxlovid delivered to my home 3 hours later and took my first dose with dinner that night.

I had been extremely fearful of getting Covid as my immune system is not great. However it was actually a doddle though I continued testing positive for 2 weeks. No cold, slight headache and sore throat for first few days, but no other symptoms whatsoever. Paxlovid certainly worked for me!

My only problem was getting “Paxlovid mouth” and having everything taste the same — i.e. all equally foul. On the bright side because I wasn’t eating so much I lost a kilo in a week!

This report on a Japanese-led neutralisation study nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/N... suggests that Paxlovid is effective against the dominant variant(s) omicron BA.5 (4) circulating in the USA (your profile doesn't say where you are located, but one of your posts mentions MDA). The report admits to a lack of clinical data, and I don't know of any that have been published.

Table 1 gives a quick summary. You're looking for values under Nirmatrelvir in the far right column, and on the BA.4 and BA.5 lines. Low values indicate good neutralisation.

Paxlovid is Nirmatrelvir boosted with Ritonavir, so should be even better.

FWIW: Y E S ..... effective .. For me

I am at the end of my six months Evusheld duration of protection and managed to catch the covida loca last week.

I was sched for a re-up of those Ev antibodies yesterday, and now my Dr pushed those twin shots out to October.

As for the covid itself . . . . .

Very mild symptoms and almost no fatigue (prbly due to the last bit of functioning Evusheld antibodies in my system).

I started Paxlovid on Sept 14 and completed the 5 day course.

No problems,except for that nasty metallic taste.

And, within three days of taking Paxlovid, I had no symptoms or discomfort.

My thinking is that I caught the BA.5 . as it seems to be the strain going around

Anyway, I'm happy to report that the Paxlovid meds did their thing, and I'm feeling fine.

You asked about the newest Covid variants. Well, it seems that omicron BA.4.6 is gaining ground fast. It's not thought to be significantly more transmissible, and its competitive advantage may be because it's evasive of vaccines, and of authorised monoclonals other than bebtelovimab biorxiv.org/content/10.1101...

Early days, but the bivalent vaccines are thought to protect.

Antivirals? Haven't seen any data yet, but I'd be surprised if there's much difference in what we've seen with BA.4 and BA.5.

I'm W&W for 2 years. Abs lymphs were 82K in July. Got 1st Evusheld 8/23. Got Covid 8/31 and started Paxlovid same day. 5 days later felt great then rebound on 9/5. Never got fever but plenty of head congestion and sore throat. On 9/17 tested neg at home then PCR positive same day. Now on 9/21 feeling almost normal. Got CBC Diff test on 9/19 with abs lymphs shooting up to 120K! Still no noticeable swollen lymph nodes. Anyone else experience the sudden rise ( I hope) in abs lymphs being related to Covid?
