Winding down on the V and O fun - and see an Italy trip in my horizon. To Wine or not to Wine, that is the question? Will be on 4 V pills per day but that's it.

My sister is in mid flight from Venice to London, as I write: albeit a work trip....... Maybe with a bottle or two, of 'lady petrol' (wine).

My specialist said there was no good reason that I couldn't drink wine moderately while on V (after ramp-up of course). And so I did, and nothing bad happened.

Hi Gardengirl44,

You may want to read this posting from 2 months ago:

My suggestion is to ask your Hem/Onc to consider whether your liver is in great shape ( e.g.: eGFR and Creatine clearance) and whether you have some planned event when your liver could be stressed by treatment.

-

Unless we are going into a clinical trial, most of our CLL experts seem to say "all things in moderation"

My understanding is that eGRF and creatine are indicators how well your kidneys are working, important also. You could ask for a liver function test, ALT, AST, ALP, albumin and total protein, bilirubin, GGT, LD and PT are the most common.

It’s never been an issue for me! I’d say go for it — in moderation of course…

I think you've been missing out - my consultant advised at the outset that there was no reason to stop drinking alcohol, just in moderation as usual.

Dr. Byrd (who likes wine) told me ok to drink, but never more than 2 glasses a day.

I drank an occasional glass of wine (maybe a glass every other week or so) while on V. My specialist said an occasional glass of wine was fine. I used to have 3-4 glasses a week (a nice addition to dinner), but I cut way back because I just wasn’t enjoying eating or drinking much during treatment.
