My husband has been on acalabrutinib for about 5 months. The last two weeks or so he has been experiencing blurred vision, on and off but worse in the evenings. One eye was bloodshot for several days but that is improving. Has anyone else had these symptoms or are they unrelated to the acalabrutinib? His blood pressure is normal.

blurred vision
Hi Leo71,
-
I had a similar problem when I started on Ibrutinib. It turned out to be an issue with insufficient tears and an OTC (over the counter) eye drops like those used by contact lens users helped significantly.
-
Ibrutinib and it's cousins Acala and Zana seem to affect the skin, fingernails, eyes and saliva production. There is an autoimmune disease called Sjogren's syndrome that some CLL patients suspect is caused by CLL's effect on our immune system.

thank you. It sounds as if eye drops are the way to go. My husband's problem is partly that his eyes water too much but I understand that can be a feature of dry eyes.
Natural tears and the OTC drops contain an oil / lubricant that leaves a thin film on the cornea. There are several different formulations of eye drops and I tried 4 different types until I found the one that was most helpful and comfortable for me. Look at the ingredient list, not the brand name to see the difference. Some of the "overnight" type drops made my eyes more blurry, others were more soothing, but one type made my eye sight clearer for a few hours.
As mentioned by the previous reply, eye drops may help with your husband’s eyes. My ophthalmologist recommended lubricating eye drops.
To be sure, he could see an ophthalmologist himself to verify this is the issue. Trying the eye drops should not hurt anything.
