Hi LadyRichmond
This is a post that has me interested I've just had approval from my hospital to have the Shringex vaccine at my GP surgery. I'm nervous but very grateful that I have the opportunity to be given it. As I understand it is an expensive vaccine. Agree with reading the links that the side affects if any are better than having Shingles.
Because I'm 66 & not 70, (in UK) no NHS vaccine. Boots 2 injections £450. Arm bit sore but nothing else. Having had shingles on back of my head(not pleasant is an understatement !) NHS really has to reconsider need for earlier vaccinations on diagnosis of CLL.
That's not good that you had to pay I'm presuming you enquired first? I'm 63 W&W but hospital and GP have no hesitation in offering me the vaccine. I did have to ask but GP agreed as immune compromised I am eligible.
Asked but 'rules' said 70, in Scotland rules come before 'best practice ', still having problems getting last blood results !Getting fed up being proactive !
Right Knee been problems 5 years , 'rules' say must see physio first, (Bob &Brad on UTube recommended by me) 2 visits to physio - told what I knew need Orthopaedic Surgeon opinion, phoned GP reception to get Private referral ( NHS about 3 year waiting list), receptionist 'rules' must see GP for referral (private or NHS ) - next appointment 2 weeks. 5 mins with GP private referral for next week.
NHS system is collapsed not collapsing.
Keep Well
Yes I'm afraid it's very worrying the state of the NHS I'll admit I was expecting your kind of response when I asked. Sorry to hear about your ongoing health problems how frustrating but good luck!
I'll get my mojo back soon, have learnt over last 17 years watch & wait & teach yourself, that you need to know more than your Doctors!By the way GP's new description is the are equivalent of air traffic controllers, you have to bargain to get a slot, then they send you off somewhere, return flight by another controller (but luggage gets lost! and it's nobodies fault but Covid-19). Return to original airport for allocation of new controller & repeat.

Shingrix vaccine apologies
I had the first of the 2 Shingrix vaccines on Thursday. I have had a sore arm for a few days which is only now going down. Dave
If I chose between having shingles and any reaction to Shingrix, Shingrix would win. Shingles can be totally debilitating. It took me a long time to recover. Hope this helps.
Hi lady Richmond I had the first one recently before we went overseas. Didn’t notice spleen pain but felt really dreadful for a few days and an extremely sore arm hot and red and swollen. And I am not looking forward to the second one.
Hi Lady Richmond, Had both my injections when they first came out and apart from feeling a bit of fatigue I didn't notice anything else. It was at the time that we were also being jabbed left right and centre for Covid so my body could have been telling me it had had enough! I agree with Hazel33 it is better than contracting shingles. Hope you feel better soon.
Hi Lady Richmond, I had my first shingrix jab 2 weeks ago. My arm was painful and slightly swollen for a few days. I also had a fever for 36 hours, I don't usually react to any jab. It was all worth it for the protection it gives, although I'm not looking forward to the next one!
I had my Shingrix jab 4 or 5 years ago. I don’t remember my reaction but I do remember my father’s suffering from Shingles!
The worst vaccine was pneumonia. It really hurt going in - the only one to ever do that.
With my second Shingrix shot, I got a small shingles like itchy rash in the area of the arm that got the shot. It did not last long!
I had no reaction to Shingrix shots except minor pain in arm for a day.
I had no adverse reaction to Shingrix 1 and 2. Age then 87, CLL under control with Imbruvica. I had Shingles ten years ago and I would definitely recommend to get the vaccination which offers high protection.
I had no adverse reaction to my first shingles shot. My second shot I had fever and body aches on the day after.
Having suffered from Shingles just once, at 72 years of age I was keen to receive Shringrix last year on the NHS, everything went well with both vaccinations with no adverse reactions. Interestingly my haematology team insisted I continue with Acyclovir tablets daily.
I was out for about 36 hours after the Shingrix shot (fever and fatigue) but no pain. I was in full remission by the time I had it though.
