Like many of you I have been looking forward to the roll out of Evusheld for those of us who cannot mount an immune response to Covid. Im devastated to see that, despite approving the drug, the Government has not ordered any of the drugs and has no plans l, as yet, to do so.
Can this be true? Does anyone have any more information?
Hi,MhRA approval is just a regulatory process and doesn't automatically mean the it's available within the NHS. For a drug to be used in NHS it will need NICE approval, which looks at clinical outcomes vs cost. I would assume evusheld is expensive thus wouldn't be NICE approved for mass use for all CLL patients. I suspect NICE will draw up criteria for it's limited use in specific cases and situations. ? Comorbidities. NICE will also consider the other treatments and antivirals in any decision. The private sector doesn't require NICE approval so may be available through that pathway
My cancer nurse has told me that there are concerns about how Evushield stacks up against the Omicron variant. My feeling is that for those of us with no antibodies, a reduced coverage is better than no coverage.Any thoughts how we could access this drug privately if not approved by NICE for NHS? Who could we go to?
