I am about to start CLL treatment with acalabrutinib and would welcome comments from other people with experience of using this treatment, especially with regard to the incidence of side effects, their severity and how to cope with them or, if possible, reduce them.

request for advice on experiences with acalabrutinib treatment for CLL
Hi giraffe162,
-
I started in Acalabrutinib in Jan 2022, and have had no issues with it.
But I have taken many other targeted treatments as you can see here: healthunlocked.com/user/lan...

I switched to acalabrutinib from ibrutinib last year. I have not had any issues with acalabrutinib worth mentioning. It’s been a relatively easy drug for me that works well. We are all different though. Good luck.
Hi,
I just started Acalabrutinib just over 2 weeks ago, and so far I've had none of the negative side-effects of the listed possible/likely side-effects. It should be mentioned that WBC / lymphocyte counts are most likely to jump up, at first, before receding. Am told it's expected / normal (complicated explanation).
Also worth mentioning is that my (very visible) neck lymph nodes shrunk by about 75% in the first 7 to 10 days, which was great. They are now barely visible,
Remember to drink more water throughout the day after the start of treatment. (Otherwise, follow your doc's advice).
All the best,
MS
Take 2 acetaminophen with your Acalabrutinib to ward off the headache. Taper down as your body adjusts. My hemoglobin (& energy) crashed with Acalabrutinib (to just under 9), I felt like the life had drained out of me, and doc had me stop for a week. (Nodes came back.) Then 1 per day, then increase to 2 three days a week. Then back to full dose. I'm still weak.
