My wife has CLL and has been diagnosed with RSV. Looking if any othe CLL patients have had and what treatment was used for combating RSV
I know it can be dangerous and lead to pneumonia for immuncompromised.
Any input appreciated

As a virus, treatment would be supportive unless a secondary problem arises. Rest, fluids, checking for fever, and checking oxygenation with a Pulse Oximeter would all be good. Change pillowcases daily, wipe down commonly touched surfaces (especially shared ones), air fluff (outside or in dryer) blankets or comforters to prevent self reinfection & keep viral load low.
I caught RSV 6months after end of chemo - at least, RSV was conclusion of symptom analysis here on HU.For me it was the Worst thing ever.. likely so much worse with low immune system post BR treatment x6 cycles.
Monitoring oxygen using pulse oximeter is wise.
Knowing that lying down on back or reclining - both impede the lung volume.. far better to lie on one side, maybe tilted towards the front..
If a severe cough develops, be prepared for costochondritis rib/muscle pain recovery to take weeks after.
Her haematology team are aware of her infection?
What do they suggest?
GL,
Be prepared to take her to the ER, this virus is very serious. My mother in law who is 86 just got it a little over a week ago. In 3 days she was in ICU on a Bipap machine and just got moved out from the ICU yesterday.
I hate to be an alarmist but I would at least call her Hematologist and let him/her know.
Jeff
Thank you for replies. Doing most everything suggested Washing pillow cases and sheets/ blankets helpful. We are doing inhaler Breztri. Nunulizer- albuteral-, coughing pills. Decongestant. Netty PotWarm Vic’s vaporizer when sleeping.
Oncologist put her on Ribavarin- 3/600 mg - total 1800 mg daily. And waiting to see if we can get IVIG infusion in our home. Won’t do in clinic due to RSV being so contagious
She has had cough 12-14 days. Diagnosis of. RSV 10 days.
Up and down 10 days with 1 ER run and release
To me, I would obtain some sort of antibiotic in case. No, it doesn’t help a virus, but if this turns into something else, you’d be ready.
Thanks beanlake14.
