Hi everyone , I think I must have had a feeling something was wrong when I sent best wishes to everyone yesterday. My husband is in A & E at this moment and has been told his enlarged spleen is causing the pain he is experiencing. I know this happens but it is still frightening watching somebody in pain. Has anyone had to endure this pain till treatment starts or will they give him something to cope with it. Treatment is now going to be very soon I think . Best wishes everyone.

Hi Lesley3,-
Most of the CLL expert doctors I have heard describe their logic / thought process for starting treatment, will react to patients experiencing pain that affects daily life, and move up the time table to start treatment. You may want to contact his Haematology consultant and advise them of the issue, and then book an appointment to get the consultant to consider treatment soon.

This pinned post has videos of several USA CLL experts describing how they determine when to start treatment. Enlarged nodes &/or spleen, is mentioned - one doctor even calls the spleen a big lymph node.

I had horrible pain on my left side. My numbers were not that bad, so my doctor sent me for other tests to rule out other causes. The CT scan found the enlarged spleen. They gave nothing for the pain, just recommended Tylenol (which didn’t help). I started treatment within a month (O + V) and it the pain was cut in half after the first treatment and within weeks, it was gone. Best of luck.
I had enlarged spleen and the hematologist of the cancer clinic started me on Imbruvica and after one month' my spleen had returned to normal dimension.
