Day Three Post-J&J

Hi Folks,

I received the the J&J vax Friday morning at ten a.m. and I have to say, it’s been a rough ride. Still. Feel like I have a flu plus bone pain. Unsteady. Time to call care team, or is this still within the bounds of expected reactions?

Glenn

I felt like hell after the second Oxford AZ jab and the severity of my symptoms took me by surprise. I had chills, banging headache, tinnitus and nausea and just felt quite unwell. I didn’t have a temperature however and I kept a close watch on my general obs. I felt a fair bit better within 24 hrs but it took 48 to be back to what constitutes normal for me. I’d keep a close eye on things Glenn and contact your care team if you’re no better in the morning or feel concerned. Some of us have had very extreme reactions to the various vaccines lasting several days.

Best wishes,

Newdawn

I had AZ vaccine. Guessing that two doses go differently to the one dose J&J1st dose required 24 hours of proper rest .. tachycardia, etc. Though at 24 hours I was okay, I took thing easy for a couple more days.

2nd dose really demanded I rest up for a few days.

All these vaccines seem to go all out to get a good response — a pandemic requires it of them — and this sees our bodies really ‘turn up the effort’

I’d keep an eye on your stats: temp, blood oxygen, HR .. but I will now google what standard J&J reactions are..

cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nc...

I’d take it really easy.. lie down, stay hydrated, eat lightly but good nutrition..

A few days.. unless you are alarmed at the reactions, tomorrow is likely the day you should start improving, if my guess.

“Take it easy?” I need to define that! Thanks for the link.

Is, “Take it -really- easy” any clearer?!I am talking of giving opportunity for most of your energy to go to whatever your immune system is busy with.. resting, reclining, reading, watching TV .. low energy activities ..

My experience of reaction to the AZ vaccine, admittedly some of this was allergic type reaction, was that my body was clearly very busily at work doing all of the adjustments kicked off by the vaccine..

Curiously, a few days later I had a sense of some kind of revitalised feelings.. not merely rested, but ‘souped up’ [as of a car that has high grade fuel added, or specialist engine tuning carried out.. ] — I felt really good. Not any sense of vaccine granted immunity, just some energised feeling.

Take it easy :)

I had J&J. No reaction.

Same, my arm didn’t even feel sore.

(Though, about 9 or 10 days out my L ear developed some tinnitus. Hard to know whether it’s vaccine related or not. )

My healthy 25yr old had j&j and had high fever, chills for 3 days.

I had zero reaction to either of my Pfizer vaccines and just learned they produced no antibodies. So I expect your reaction means that the vaccine is working. That's a plus!

Oh no. OK. Problem reframed.

cllboy I had no reaction to my Pfizer vaccine. 5 weeks later I took the antibody test. The result was negative. No antibodies we are not protected. I' have been on Imbrutin it controls my cell and.also kills my antibodies

And you are forgetting about T-cells, which may turn out to be more important than antibodies. And remember, we are still testing to see if there are antibodies other than those having a Covid infection produces, which are the ones the current antibody tests look for. We don't know yet if we are using the "wrong test" for people who got vaccinated as opposed to those ho got infections. It will take some time to determine that.

Reaction to the vaccine or lack thereof has no correlation to one’s immune response.

Additionally, from the CLL society page: “there are no data in CLL patients to suggest that presence of antibodies confers protection, or even lack of antibodies means no immunity.”

Research is being done but we just don’t know what level of protection is afforded us post vaccine at this time.

Pretty normal reaction and the odds are your body will produce a good amount of antibodies. My reaction lasted four days and it was unpleasent. Then I tested 4 weeks after 2nd dose Moderna and had greater than 250.

Hang in there! I know the feeling of shoot. I might as well have contracted covid because i feel like crap! Its just a thought, the vaccine is the better option...:)

Definitely the better option, although I had COVID and was able to get monoclonal antibodies. This is worse. More acute, but less deadly.

I had Moderna - my first was just arm pain but my second I had severe arm pain down through my fingers and what felt like swollen lymph under my arm, I also had a fever of 101° and just felt achy and exhausted. My symptoms didn’t show up until almost 36-48 hours after the vaccine - they did go away after about 24 hours. Hope you’re feeling better !!

Hi LPM - Sorry to hear the reactions from J&J. I had that one-shot wonder and no bad reactions, just a one day sore arm, typical of flu shots I’ve gotten before.

Hope you plow thru it well. Hang in there.

I got the J&J vaccine about 6 weeks ago. I had no side affects at all. Kind of wished I had some sort of sign to know my immune system had responded.
