Is hair loss side effect of acalabrutnib?
Hi Mackie. I did not experience hair loss on acala but I did have a change in texture (curlier) and I know others have experienced similar on btk inhibitors so my guess is it could also cause hair loss. I did experience hair loss on my current clinical trial. My doctor said stress but I was also having skin peeling and a few other reactions so I decided he was wrong I contacted a few others on the same trial and they also had hair loss.
Good news - after 4 months it stopped and my hair looks pretty good right now.
All of this a long winded way to say - if nothing else in your life has changed it could very well be the acala. Is your hair thinning or are you getting bald patches?
Not as far as I am aware and not listed here chemocare.com/chemotherapy/...
While I was taking Ibrutinib I had hair loss and breakage. Also an Ibrutinib perm with what was left. Ibrutinib also affected my thyroid meds which could have caused part of it. I am taking Alacabrutinib and so far not experienced hair loss.
Hi Mackie, I did not notice any increase in hair loss whilst on acalabrutinib. I have noticed that the grey in my hair has substantially increased over the last year. I would like to blame that on my treatment but I fear it's my age!!🙂
On Ibrutinb since late 2016 and my lovely thick hair has shed handfuls since that time (hair is brittle and also breaks) along with broken fingernail and thinner skin. I assume keratin loss, though I'm not sure if this is tied to my abnormal low Total Protein blood counts since being on the BTK inhibitor. The only plus is that the sparrows love my strands of long hair for nest building times ! 😊
I haven’t, no. It’s slightly thinner due to peri/menopause but I haven’t noticed a significant change. My nails are more brittle though.
I am on a 3 drug trial, acalabrutinib is one of them, and had noticed that my hair was thinning. Almost a year into treatment and my hair has filled back in, not to where it was but close. I wondered if it happened because of the medication or because my red blood count and platelets went so incredibly low. I didn’t take any supplements only ate a healthful diet. I know many take biotin, I am restricted from certain things due to my clinical trial. Even my beloved marmalade is a no no. If you go the Biotin route be sure to ask your Doctor. Your Doctor may make you suspend taking Biotin prior to bloodwork. Yes, it can skew numbers. Best,
Sandy
I think it might be. I went through the tight frizzy stage and then that left. (my afro) I still loose alot and think it might be to blame. I do take Biotin which i think helps. This was recommended to me by a oncology nurse that was a cancer patient. I am also a 50 year retired hairdresser and ive seen stress do alot of hair loss. When i did ask the doc he cut down the dose. Of course i have a hundred other things wrong with me that i suppose could cause it. So be advised i could be all wrong..... good luck
