Cujoe shared an article last week that reported that a CD8 response needs to be mounted and that our often discombobulated immune systems may be failing us in this aspect:
Its almost certain different vaccines will suit different groups, due to existing conditions, age and who knows what else at this stage. The pandemic is ongoing and time is of the essence and hesitancy is not ideal. I'm in the UK and I have no choice in my vaccine, I was given the astra zenica 2 weeks ago. some are getting the Pfeizer. I believe the UK response, especially going to a single dose to up the numbers vaccinated, has shown great insight which is paying off. Some countries have unnecessarily shunned the astra zenica vaccine, South Africa has shelved 1m doses of AZ and are just deploying their (i think 80000 ) pfeizer vaccine. the worry is the efficacy of their new variant. I cannot fathom why they wont offer the protection they have available. All vaccines will require rework for the coming winter and I believe the UK will be offering mass revaccination at that time. Finally, after such a poor performance, we are doing something right. I am not concerned that I got one vaccine and not another. These have been desperate times but any vaccination requires high uptake to gain proper protection for all members of society, it is not an individual thing.
I am skeptical that any differences will be noted "soon". It takes time to gather good data. The best studies are what we call "prospective".....we set them up, gather data over a certain amount of time, with a certain amount of patients, then analyze & report.. ..You can't rush a good prospective study. People can & do analyze data as a study unfolds, we may see some information from that.
I totally agree with belfastbees. I will take whatever vaccine is presented to me. I think we need to tamp this thing down ASAP, and nuances can wait until later. I am also assuming we will need some kind of continuing booster shots as this virus continues to mutate. I will be very happy if my assumption is wrong, but as I am more the "disaster preparedness/risk mitigation" type of personality, this type of assumption & preparations for it tend to calm my anxiety instead of exacerbate it.
But possibly not for everybody. That’s the issue. People with weak immune systems may not produce antibodies to the same degree. But we don’t really know yet.
